Our team of experts are with you each step of the way from the initial inquiry and consultation, to the surgery, the rehabilitation, and the life changing results that follow.

Our surgeons are the most experienced and safest limb lengthening surgeons in the world. Our physical therapists are specifically trained to care for each stature lengthening patient, and our entire clinical and nonclinical support team members are here to support you before, during, and after the process.

THE PROCEDURE

initial consultation
Initial Consultation: Start with a specialized EOS scan (low-radiation full-body X-ray) to assess your anatomy and customize your plan.

The consultation starts with a specialized standing x-ray called an EOS scan. This is a low-radiation dose scan of your entire body from head to foot in a biplanar fashion (front and side at the same time).

Surgery overview
Surgery Overview: Performed by our board-certified surgeons, the procedure involves inserting the Precice nail for controlled lengthening.

Surgery

You will have a preoperative visit with the surgery team to go over the consent form and all of the paperwork. You will also have an appointment with our preoperative nurse and anesthesiologist.

Lengthening Phase: Begin one week post-surgery, lengthening 1mm per day over 1–3 months.

Lengthening Phase

No lengthening is performed in the first week after surgery. This is called the Latency period. One week after surgery, you will begin the lengthening phase. During the lengthening phase, the PRECICE nail will lengthen the bone 1mm per day.

Physical Therapy: Daily sessions (5 days/week) with our specialized therapists to maintain mobility and strength.

Physical Therapy

Physical therapy (PT) is required daily (5 days per week) during the lengthening phase. The Paley Institute has a specialized physical therapy department on-site.

Bone Healing (Consolidation): Return home while new bone forms over 3–6 months.

Bone Healing

Once the desired length has been achieved, you will enter the bone healing (consolidation) phase and you can return home.

Hardware Removal: Final outpatient procedure once fully healed.

Hardware Removal

Once the new regenerate bone has completely healed and you have returned to your normal level of activity the final step will be removal of the PRECICE nails.
